God. The infinite Master. Alpha and Omega. The Beginning & The End. King of Kings. Lord of Lords. Needless to say, we serve an AWESOME God. A BEYOND awesome God. And I am still amazed that He calls us His children, and that He loves us so much that He would send His only begotten Son, Jesus to die for us while we were yet in our sins. But sometimes we forget this. Sometimes we just praise God for what He is capable of giving us, or what He has given us instead of Who He is. Sometimes the amount of praise we give God is dependent on the amount of blessings He gives us. But there should be NO conditions on our praise. He is enough all by Himself. It should be that we give God praise & want to spend time with Him no matter what.
One of my favorite worship songs is called, "Indescribable." Some of the lyrics are: "Indescribable, uncontainable, You placed the stars in the sky, and You know them by name. You are amazing God. All powerful, untameable, awestruck we fall to our knees as we humbly proclaim: You are amazing God!" Whew. For lack of better words, our God is totally indescribable!! He is the Creator, the Author, and the Finisher.
But sometimes in this life, we tend to question God. We tend to question His ways. And sadly, sometimes we even doubt Him, and think our plans or ways are better than His. We say, "God, I pray, I read Your Word, & I try to live the best way I can, but I'm still coming up short." Maybe your finances are not where you want them to be, maybe you're struggling with being single and waiting on God, maybe you've been hurt deep, or maybe you're just plain sad and can't find God in any of your situations. But I want to encourage you that He is there, and He is enough. 1 Samuel 12:22 says, "For the sake of his great name the Lord will not reject his people, because the Lord was pleased to make you his own." See? He LOVES you! He MADE you! So, regardless of what you think you should have, you already have everything you need! And that's God. We ALL have a God-sized void in our hearts, and no one else can fill it, BUT God. So we don't have to search for love, acceptance, peace, or joy somewhere else, because He is all of those things. He is everything, and in Him, we will never lack.
I know that this type of thinking is not culturally accepted, because this world teaches that we need "stuff" to make us feel better about ourselves, or if we don't have a man/woman then we're doomed. But God teaches us contentment and gratefulness. 1 Thessalonians says, "Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus." So regardless of our pain or hardships, we have to realize that we have SO much to rejoice over!
I am truly enjoying the new series "Crash the Chatterbox" by Pastor Steven Furtick (Elevation Church). He talks about silencing those voices in your head that tells you what you aren't, what you don't have, and how inadequate you are, when God is everything, has everything, and is never inadequate. Those voices will tell us that God just isn't enough. Yeah, He created absolutely everything, He made you and me, He sent His Son to die for us, but He just doesn't understand how I'm feeling right now. He doesn't understand the pain I'm going through. He doesn't understand how hard it is to trust Him when I can't see my way out. He doesn't understand how hard I'm trying to serve Him. But, He DOES understand. He knows your deepest pains, and He knows how to meet you right where you are. He even knows how many hairs are on your head! (read Luke 12) We have to stop fighting Him, and just surrender to His perfect will for our lives.
I know sometimes praising God just for who He is is not something we always want to hear, especially when it seems like everyone else is getting what they prayed for and our prayers are unanswered. But think about this. Let's say you are in a relationship with someone, and you shower them with gifts often. Then for awhile, you stop giving them gifts and taking them out, and just ask them to spend time with you without all of the flashy stuff. Then they leave you. How would you feel? Hurt? Sad? Worthless? Probably. Because you would then realize that that person didn't love you for you, but for what you gave them. The same is with our relationship with Christ. He doesn't want us to serve Him just for His blessings, but also because He is GOD. An incredible God deserves incredible praise, regardless of our circumstances. He is and will forever be ENOUGH.
